CAMERON, Hugh Archie Gilbert, 85, of Lions Brook, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2024. Born in Sarnia, Ontario, he grew up in Wallaceburg, Ontario. He was the son of Hugh (1975) and Rita (2014). He was a resident of Chatham, Ontario before moving to Pictou, Nova Scotia in 1993. Hugh was an elementary school teacher, beginning his career in a one-room schoolhouse at the age of 19. He graduated from the University of Windsor with a BA (Political Science) and taught in Brighton, Lindsay, Oakville and Brampton, Ontario before settling in the Wallaceburg area teaching at WT Laing, McKeough, Queen Mary, McGregor and Harwich Raleigh. He retired in 1993 and moved to Nova Scotia where he established a transportation service transporting clients to Halifax for medical treatment, appointments and airport services. An avid book collector, reader and woodworker, he spent half his career as an industrial arts instructor. He is survived by daughters: Kimberly (Scott) Porter of Pictou, NS, and Lisa (Stephen) Hazard of St. Andrews, NB; grandchildren: Stephanie Porter-Oldfield (Nick), Katie Porter-McPherson (Alex), Lisa Porter, AJ Porter, Chris (Katie) Hazzard, Alyssa Hazzard; great-grandchildren: Lily and Lyla McPherson, Olivia and Chloe Oldfield, Owen and Hayley Hazard. He was predeceased by his wife of 38 years, Kathy (1998); mother, Rita (2014); father, Hugh (1975); and brother Wayne (1997). Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. Burial will be in Heatherdale Cemetery in Pictou County. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. If desired, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
