Laredo, Tex. (KGNS) – Currently, conversations are being held to bring the Children’s Intensive Care Department (ICU) to Larendo by the end of the year.
The idea was first discussed at a meeting of the City Council in June 2024, where a bond referendum was proposed to help financing the unit. Laredo Joe’s manager said the city could not fully finance the project on its own.
NAB said that the public-private partnership would be the best way to happen by adding that both Larendo and the doctors’ hospital showed support for the initiative.
NAB explained that the project would not include new construction as the space is already available. Instead, the focus will be on providing the necessary resources to start and operate the device. “With some of the preliminary conversations we had with hospitals, I believe you will see something actually happening this year,” NaB said.
The City Council will discuss the plan further during a special meeting on Thursday, January 30, at 5:30 pm at the City Hall.
