San Diego, California – A winter storm warning remains in effect for the San Bernardino Mountains and Riverside County from 4 p.m. on Saturday until 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The National Weather Service is predicting heavy snowfall and strong winds that could cause hazardous travel conditions.

Snow accumulations could reach 12 to 18 inches above 6,000 feet, with 6 to 12 inches expected above 5,000 feet and 3 to 6 inches possible above 4,000 feet, according to the National Weather Service. Gusty winds of up to 50 mph are forecast for Saturday, potentially bringing down tree limbs and reducing visibility.

Travel can become extremely difficult, especially on bridges and overpasses. Conditions are likely to affect travel on Monday morning. Officials advise postponing travel if possible. For those who must drive, make sure vehicles are winterized and equipped with an emergency kit including food, water and a flashlight.

Residents are urged to monitor local road conditions by calling 511 and to use caution on slick roads. Avoid sudden stops, keep extra distance between vehicles and allow extra time for travel.

This storm marked a significant weather event for the region, bringing rare heavy snowfall to Southern California mountain communities.
