It’s no secret that the Utah Jazz have gotten off to a rough start to their 2024-25 season, as their opening six-game record is a dismal 0-6 as the worst team in the entire NBA, but it may come as a surprise just how rough things have been for this team , to start his campaign.
In fact, the Jazz’s six-game losing streak to start this season puts them in the company of some of the least successful starts in NBA history.
In ugly statistics demonstrated by NBA.comThe Jazz are just the fifth team in NBA history (first in 16 years) to start the season 0-6 while being outscored by at least 18 points per game. The best final record among the top four teams belonged to the 1998-89 Sacramento Kings, who finished 27-55 and 10th out of 13 teams in the Western Conference.
Considering the Jazz have far and away a league-worst net rating of -18.3 (next closest is -8.9), it’s not a complete surprise to see how badly this season has gone in Utah. Not only was this team already suffering through a number of injuries to start the new season, even when this team was fully healthy on the floor together, it still didn’t lead to many wins.
However, if these stats show us anything, it’s that we can probably expect this type of season to continue for the Jazz. With none of the six 0-6 teams coming too close to a 30-win season, it’s fair to assume the same will happen with this young Utah team. Sure, it’s a long season, but history tells fans to brace themselves for what could be a long and bumpy road.
The Jazz have a chance to turn their season around next Monday night as they travel to face the Chicago Bulls for the second of their four-game stretch.
