Brush fires challenge area firefighters amid severe drought – LevittownNow.com

Firefighters in the area are battling brush fires fueled by persistent dry conditions.

On Friday afternoon, emergency crews responded to a brush fire near Bowlero Bristol in the 2500 block of Route 13 in the Croydon neighborhood of Bristol Township.

Strong breezes helped spread the flames across several acres of forest, prompting a multi-agency response, including units from surrounding municipalities and wildland firefighters from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, according to dispatch reports.

Firefighters spent several hours battling the brush fire.

In the city of Middletown, firefighters battled a small brush fire on the SEPTA West Trenton line in the 800 block of Parker Street on Friday afternoon.

The Parkland Fire Company released a video showing the aftermath, which included a damaged backyard and a melted fence.

Additional brush fires were reported in the town of Bensalem, and a multi-alarm fire in the town of Soulbury drew crews from across the region.

Earlier in the week, crews battled a multi-acre brush fire at Silver Lake Park in Bristol Township.

The National Weather Service’s Mount Holly regional office said both the Philadelphia and Trenton monitoring stations have recorded little to no measurable precipitation since Sept. 28.

Bucks County officials have imposed a burn ban to reduce brush fire risks through the end of November.
