Brpd works to move through budget cuts with 2025 budget – WBRZ

Baton Rouge – Baton Rouge Police Department is one of the first departments to feel the abbreviations that are happening with their budget after Saint George’s inclusion, which they currently work with a $ 9 million budget.

Month in 2025, Mayor Sid Edwards says that his administration is reviewing their budget every day.

“There is still no effect, of course, since we have not launched any initiatives, we look at it,” Edwards said.

The abbreviations occurred with programs at Baton Rouge police like Sotch Spotter and the installed BRPD patrol. BRPD chief “TJ” Morse says that while they have canceled the contract, they still receive services with respect to Spotter Shot.

“They have agreed to continue this service without accepting money from us so far while looking for possible other sources of funding. This was the decision that it was extremely expensive and the type of cost of excessive relocation of sensors to other parts of the city, – – Morse said.

As for the installed patrol, Morse says the horses are aging and retiring, so it has been a question whether to invest more money for horses or invest in labor or technologies that BRPD does not have.

President Mayor Sid Edwards says he would prefer not to reduce the BRPD budget and hopes to save the Spotter Shot program.

“For the police department for sure, this is the last place I want to see, so we are currently looking to see what we can do to save this program. I think this is an effective work of the police and we work hard to save as much as More things can, “Edwards said.
