A total of thirty-six Broward County Sheriff’s officers have tested positive for Covid-19, Sheriff Gregory Toney announced at a news conference Tuesday morning.
Tony said 36 officers have tested positive for the virus, not including Officer Shannon Bennett, 39, who died Friday of complications from Covid-19.
“We have 547 employees affected by Covid-19,” he said.
Tony said 300 of the staff were currently being monitored, while 210 had returned to duty.
He also stressed that the department cares about the health and safety of its employees at work.
“From February 1 to April 6, we distributed over 25,263 N95 masks to our first responders,” the sheriff said.
Tony also added that BSO has provided over 44,000 surgical masks and over 4,000 bottles of hand sanitizer to first responders.
