BREADA celebrates 28th anniversary through Eat Local Week: Gail’s, The Gregory and more – The Advocate

Looking for something to do after Halloween? The inaugural Local Food Week kicks off on Saturday and runs through Friday, November 8.

The Big River Economic and Agricultural Development Alliance is celebrating its 28th anniversary by partnering with local farmers and restaurants to encourage people to eat local. Each restaurant will create a featured dish highlighting locally grown ingredients and display information about the dish, the produce used and the farmers who grew it.

“Louisiana has a rich culinary scene, and we’re excited to create meaningful connections between farmers and local chefs here in Baton Rouge,” Darlene Adams Rowland, executive director of BREADA, said in a press release. “We are grateful to our restaurants for showcasing the richness of Louisiana agriculture during Local Food Week.”

Those who purchase a featured dish can bring their receipt to the Red Stick Farmers Market before Nov. 16 to enter a raffle for $100 in market tokens. One receipt gets you one entry, and three receipts will earn you five bonus entries.

Participating restaurants in Eat Local Week include:

  • Eliza Restaurant and Bar
  • Gail’s Fine Ice Cream
  • Gregory
  • The overpass merchant
  • Pizzeria Roca
