BOISE, Idaho — The Boise State University football team is now one step closer to its first College Football Playoff appearance. The Broncos moved up to #15 in this week’s AP Top-25 poll after defeating the University of Las Vegas Rebels 29-24 on Friday.

Previously ranked 17th, BSU continues its campaign to establish itself as the top team in the so-called “Group of 5,” which includes The Mountain West, American Athletic Conference, Conference USA, Mid-American Conference and The Sun Belt . Under the new College Football Playoff rules, the top G5 team will receive an automatic berth in the postseason tournament. The Broncos’ only loss came at the hands of the No. 1-ranked Oregon Ducks, who earned the victory in a thrilling 37-34 decision on Sept. 7. The only other G5 team currently in the Top-25 poll is Army, ranked #21.
Heisman hopeful Ashton Janty rushed for a whopping 128 yards and the game-winning touchdown during Friday’s game, bringing his season rushing totals to 1,376 yards and 18 touchdowns. Jeanty is averaging 8.7 yards per carry.
Boise State faces San Diego State (3-4) at home this coming Friday.
