Birmingham police: Package store shooting death vindicated by district attorney’s office – WBRC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Authorities with the Birmingham Police Department say a shooting death in September has been ruled justified.

Tremaine Long, 37, of Bessemer was shot at a package store in the 1500 block of 3rd Avenue West on September 20, 2024.

Investigators submitted the information gathered to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office for review. After doing so, the prosecution decided the shooting was justified.

Police have therefore reclassified their investigation as a justified death investigation.

The incident happened when police were called to the Third Avenue package store around 12:40 a.m. on Sept. 20, where they found Long unresponsive on the floor of the business with a gunshot wound.

Crews took him to an area hospital for treatment, but Long was later pronounced dead.

Police initially said in their investigation that Long appeared to have been involved in a physical altercation with another man outside the store. During the standoff, according to them, the man shot at Dalgia. Then Dulgiya entered the store and collapsed.
