Birmingham MPB -based structures earn a contract to build the “Curzon Street HS2 Station” for the HS2 HS2 Station

The Curzon Street Station Mace Dragados (MDJV) joint venture is preparing for construction work to be strengthened at the Birmingham Lead Station in 2025, the first of a series of major contract awards.

Civil Engineering Specialists MPB Structures, with offices in Birmingham, received the contract for the construction of the foundations of the maintenructure. This work follows the accumulation operation, which is currently supplied by Keltbray to install 2000 concrete piles to maintain the foundations of the station.

A team of about 140 MPB people will start working on the spot from January 2025, building the sophisticated mainstructure for the station. The work involves the removal of 65,000 m3 of land, using about 17,000 cubic meters of concrete to install 417 caps of piles and over 4,700 tonnes of reinforcing steel to make the ground beams of the stations.

The team will also be a waterproofing new concrete structures, building the drainage network within and around the station, and will also build the rainwater storage tanks that will be recycled for use at the station when it works.

Dave Locke, Director of the HS2 project client for Street Station Curzon Street, said:

“This contract award marks the next stage of our construction program for the construction of the leading station of Curzon Street and we are happy to have MPB on board. More contracts will be awarded in the coming months, when we are focusing on the start of the construction of the main station next year. “

There will be two placements per month at this phase of work, including training offered for the duration of the nine -month contract. In the coming months, additional contracts will be awarded for the construction of the Upgrade Station. These will include the construction of the station flooring along with the elevator shafts, the stairs and columns in support of the viaducts that will bring trains to the stations. The viaducts themselves will be made of pre -covered concrete beams produced outside the site to save time and place on the spot.

An additional contract for the facade, walls and glazing of the station will then be awarded. The design of the station will be finalized next year, focusing on the details of the features, including the roof and the internal adaptation of the station.

The Curzon Street Station will become a key destination and a thriving departure point as part of the UK’s new high -speed rail line. It will provide excellent connectivity to EastSide and Digbetth, which will allow for broader regeneration by connecting together the curricula and creative neighborhoods, new residential developments and the city center.

The station will offer seamless connections with the local transport network, including buses and the Midland subway with a tram line that works with and under the station. It will also create new public spaces, including two squares and an alley.
