A convicted felon pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm

U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Special Agent in Charge Marcus Watson said Tradaryl Ryshad Boykins, 32, of Birmingham pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge L. Scott Kugler to felon in possession of a firearm.

According to the plea agreement, on January 29, 2024, a Homewood Police Department officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Boykins.

Authorities said Boykins led officers on a chase from Homewood to downtown Birmingham.

The pursuit ended when Boykins crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of 18th Street North and 15th Avenue North.

Authorities said the driver and passenger of the vehicle suffered multiple injuries and were transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

Boykins was arrested and authorities said a search of the vehicle was conducted. Officers found a loaded Glock 23 handgun in the driver’s seat.

Boykins is prohibited from possessing firearms due to prior felony convictions.
