Birmingham City: Tomoki Iwata’s wonder man is top pick in his goals for the Blues – BBC.com

The Blues went into the international break on the back of their first league defeat of the season against Charlton Athletic at The Valley on October 5.

But they bounced back well from their week off with two-goal wins at Lincoln City last Saturday and an impressive performance to beat Bolton, even if they left it late before beating them.

The attendance – 25,793 – was less than the previous season’s domestic league average gate of 26,812, but the result extended the Blues’ lead over second-placed Wrexham to four points, with a game in hand.

The Blues now face their third tough test in eight days on Saturday when they travel to Nottinghamshire to face Nigel Clough’s fourth-placed Mansfield Town in a midday clash.

“It’s a big week,” Blues defender Ben Davies said. “But we started well with six points – and that gave us a real boost going into the Mansfield game.

“It’s an early start on the road and their home crowd will enjoy it. But we were going well before the Charlton game and have recovered well from it so far and we want to go on for another game.

“It was a good team effort. Everyone felt in harmony on the pitch and although it took a long time for the second goal, the timing of it killed them.”

His namesake, boss Chris, added: “There was a period in the first half that was one of our strongest of the season. We had a relentlessness in us.

“It’s about press, intensity, hard work, running and chasing and we did it. It came together well and we created some good chances.”
