Birmingham city schools provide guidance for staff, administrators, if they are raids on ice – Birmingham Times

Local education leaders respond to the latest guidelines sent by state leaders of education and schools for ice raids affecting Alabama schools.

Although they have not experienced any interference on the part of the federal or state law enforcement agencies related to this issue, leaders believe that guidelines are important for increasing families and administrators.

WVTM 13 has seen that management in Birmingham city schools has been betrayed.

If the law enforcement agencies arrive at school, the staff should warn the school principal, according to management.

The school principals have been instructed to request documentation as a summons, a search or arrest order and to take the employee’s name, the badge number and the head’s name.

Then this information – according to the manual – must be sent to the legal department, which will instruct what to do further.

If the information is not provided, the principal is told to ask the employee to leave.

Richard Franklin, with the local head of the American Federation of Teachers, says administrators and employees will work to comply with the law, but protect students.

“The city schools in Birmingham and the systems I work with and the teachers, we will always protect the children,” Franklin said. “We will follow the laws, but we will not only let anyone enter and profile our children. We will teach our children. We will make sure they are safe. This is for our children. And we stand on it. “

In a statement today, the State supervisor said: “The State Department of Education in Alabama will remain in constant contact with the law enforcement authorities and will notify the local superiors if any new guidelines or directives be issued by the law enforcement authorities.”
