The council voted unanimously Tuesday to approve the site, which is more than 100,000 square feet at 34 west Oxmoor Road, which the city says will be used for business operations for the city of Birmingham’s fire and police departments.

Birmingham City Council President Darrell O’Quinn says this building will largely be used to store additional equipment for Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service.

The equipment management facility is currently located on 6th Avenue South in Titusville. O’Quinn says this branch of real estate has now simply outgrown its home.

“The intention is that this facility will be used for this purpose to store redundant equipment. I believe the Birmingham Police Department is also part of the plan for this facility,” O’Quinn said.

The city lease is for 6 months, from October 2024 to April 2025.

The lease comes with a price tag of $45,000 per month.

The city also has the option to purchase the property at any time for $7,000,000.
