Birmingham Airport to introduce a dropping system without obstacle in the spring of 2025 – Travel every day

Birmingham Airport has announced plans to introduce a system without a vehicle barrier that drops passengers in their premium, placed and dropped areas. The changes that will be implemented in phases, starting with the multi-storey Elmdon in February and the drop-off equipment after the spring of 2025. The removal of barriers will support the flow of vehicles in the respective areas and reduce congestion during the busier times.

Nicky Baines, head of planning, transport and strategy at Birmingham Airport said :: “Scheduled to start this spring, the new barrier without barriers will simplify passengers’ drop, improve access to the surface of the car, offering a smoother and faster experience. By minimizing the time to wait for drivers, this will improve the flow of traffic and improve efficiency throughout the area. “

The new system will use the automatic number recognition technology (ANPR) and eliminate the need for parking barriers, ensuring that vehicles will be able to exit seamlessly, helping to facilitate congestion and improve airport traffic.

Drivers must pay the relevant parking/dropping rate due within 24 hours of leaving the parking lot, and for additional convenience, customers will have different payment options, including through an automatic payment account, after payment at home or existing machines for Payment within a site.

Reducing the queues within the premiums, determined and dropped, will reduce carbon emissions and the effects on air quality. This further supports the desire of the airport to become Net Zero Carbon by 2033 and its existing plans to control and reduce the impact on air quality.
