Big Bend Bakery, a place for brunch, decided not to crack under pressure at elevated egg prices – WCTV

Tallahasee, Florida (WCTV) – After half a decade in the business, the people of Jennifer Young bakeries know their way around an egg.

Stir and bake transports Crawfordville entrepreneur to its happy place.

“It still helps my anxiety,” she said. “It reassures me.”

But rising egg prices threaten to crack this lively bliss.

The price of eggs has jumped in recent months, leaving some distributors and companies to look for solutions. Big Bend’s business is struggling so as not to affect these costs to affect its customers.

For young pressure from these costs, it hits daily. Crawfordville’s wife first opened the doors in TC Bakery in 2019, but her cakes and sweets are already distributed in dozens of grocery stores and stores throughout the region.

But she says she takes a lot more dough to make a lot more dough.

“It was crazy!” Young said.

Her business requires more than a thousand eggs a week. But the cost of maintaining this offering has almost doubled in the last few months.

As a mother, Young said she realized that a visit to her liking was a treat for many families. She does not want increasing costs to hinder this experience.

“I have five children, so I understand that eating a cake is a luxury,” she said. “So, if you bless me when you enter my store, I don’t want to reinforce you because my prices are outrageous.”

The business owner is determined to isolate his customers from the effects of egg costs as far as possible. She said she was grateful for the loyalty that her clients had shown and wanted to support her community.

“I had no complaints or any problems,” she said. “They are like: Girl, we are loyal to you. We will pay anything. ”

So instead of increasing the price of a slice cake, she decided to slightly increase the price of full cakes and pies.

“I don’t want people to pay $ 10 for a piece of cake,” she said.

However, Young says he eats some of the effects.

This is a situation that Mike Schmidt, the owner of EGG Cafe and Eatery, knows too well.

“We will just work hard to give people quality service and quality food, and maybe we will do a little bit in a little while,” he said.

Having worked in the breakfast business and brunch for a quarter of a century, the entrepreneur said he was accustomed to a random squeege of bird flu eggs.

But the step of egg prices in the last six months is on another level, he said.

“This year was a little more extreme,” Schmidt said.

About six months ago, it cost about $ 2,800 to buy 700 dozen eggs that his two Tallahassee restaurants needed every week.

Schmidt now said prices exceed $ 6,100, which means that the price has doubled.

So far, the egg has not raised prices. Like Young, Schmidt said he was invested in his community.

“We are really trying to ride the storm hard,” the operator said.

But he is approaching to a point where he may have to break away from this approach.

“We are currently looking at a possible temporary egg fee,” he said.

As prices do not show signs of dropping out, Schmidt and Young emphasized the importance of dietary and shopping locally.

“Because we are the ones who support the community, we donate to your schools, churches,” Schmidt said.
