Key to the City honoree Sen. Ted Cruz holds rally with Laredo supporters amid re-election bid
On Wednesday, October 23, Senator Ted Cruz received the key to the city for his contributions to support international trade and growth in Laredo. Cruz met privately with U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar and Nuevo Leon Gov. Samuel Garcia to discuss U.S.-Mexico trade, highlighting Laredo’s role as a central port of entry in a closed-door meeting.
While it was all business during the day, the sitting U.S. senator went into campaign mode at night. Cruz is running for a third term in Washington as a U.S. senator, facing Democratic challenger Colin Allred in the November general election.
Hundreds gathered at the Palenque Grill to show their support as Cruz shared his stance on freedom, border security and the constitution, with Laredo marking the 24th stop on his 53-city campaign tour.
Addressing the packed house, Sen. Cruz made a bold prediction about the race, saying, “National Democrats have lost it. I’m here to tell you that Webb County is going red.
The last day for early voting is Friday, November 1. Election day is Tuesday, November 5.
