MINOT, ND – The Minot State Beavers defeated #14 Grand Canyon University 4-1 on Saturday, November 2nd to sweep the series in two games. The Beavers enter this game after defeating Grand Canyon on Friday, Nov. 1, 4-2. This win improves #3 Minot State’s record to 8-1-1 while #14 Grand Canyon moves to 3-3-1 on the season.
The first period was all Minot State as the Beavers drew first blood on a power play goal Logan Rands at 15:58 in the period to put the Beavers on top 1-0. Beaver goaltender Will Dyck kept Grand Canyon scoreless in the first period with 6 saves on 6 shots on goal.
Minot State quickly increased its lead in the second period on a goal scored by Trenton Curtis at 4:06 in the period to put the Beavers up 2-0. The goal scored by Trenton Curtis was his first goal of the season. Grand Canyon cut into Minot State’s lead with a power play goal by Owen Hanson at 14:34 of the period to make it 2-1 in Minot State’s favor.
The Beavers started again in the third period with a goal scored by Eric Creevy at 8:14 in the period to make it 3-1. The goal scored by Eric Creevy was his first goal of the season. The Beaver managed another goal scored by Joey Moffat at 10:52 in the period to extend Minot State’s lead to 4-1. Will Dyck kept Grand Canyon scoreless again in the third period with 6 saves on 6 shots on goal to give the Beavers a 4-1 win.
Reid Arnold, Jay Buchholz (2), Joey Moffat, Christian Caddolph, Colby Josephand Trenton Curtis all were credited with assists in the game. Will Dyck made 16 saves on 17 shots on goal for the Beavers to secure the victory.
The Beavers will return to action at home in a two-game set against Waldorf. The Beavers host Waldorf on Friday, November 8th at 1:00pm and Saturday, November 9th at 3:00pm at Maysa Arena.
