Baton Rouge to honor veterans on this day on Valentine’s Day with Hearts For Heroes – WBRZ

Baton Rouge – This Valentine’s Day, Baton Rouge will show his love and appreciation for local military veterans with a unique and hearty display.

The big red hearts will be placed on the square in front of the City Hall, each of which is customized in honor of a local military hero. The Hearts For Heroes project is a joint effort from community volunteers.

Elena Brazaru, chairman of the Mayor Advisory Board on Veterans, works with volunteers to customize every heart with the name, the military branch and all the honors or awards won by the veterans who are recognized.

According to Brazaru, they will fill more than 600 hearts and the goal is to reach 1000. She expressed her commitment to ensure that no veteran has been left out of respect.

“No veteran or no person who sends a name will have a heart. I will make sure all the opinions will have a heart,” she said.

Each heart represents the victim of a veteran, some even have specific medals, such as Purple Heart, the highest military award for combat wounds.

“We want people to see all the different names of these characters, we want them to notice and say, ‘Who is this person? “Maybe they recognize someone,” Brandu said.

The event is more than just a tribute – it is an opportunity for the community to honor nearly 20,000 veterans in Baton Rouge, the largest population of veterans in Louisiana.

“This is just a small way to inform them that Baton Rouge supports its veterans and his war heroes, and we continue to support our military,” Brandau said.
