BATON ROUGE – The Baton Rouge State Fair Foundation recognized 49 local high school students for their volunteer efforts in the community.
Sunday’s ceremony began at the main stage of the fairgrounds at 2:00 p.m. The awardees said they were honored to receive their awards.
“I felt very excited,” Livonia High student Johnna Bazile said. “Being from a small town, a small parish, we don’t get a lot of attention, so that made me feel very proud.”
“I think volunteering is a great thing because you’re helping to satisfy the community you’re serving, and you’re also helping yourself and feeling proud of yourself. It’s just a great thing to be able to do,” said Episcopal High student Lachie Summers.
Each student received a $500 certificate.
