BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPRUD) — Baton Rouge’s faith communities came together in a powerful show of unity and support to help St. John’s Episcopal Church. Lucca as she recovers from the devastating fire that destroyed her sanctuary earlier this year.
The benefit concert, organized by the Interfaith Federation of Greater Baton Rouge, took place at the University United Methodist Church. “Surely God Saves Me,” an event that featured a mix of music, scripture readings and prayers inspired by the Book of Isaiah. Attendees gathered to raise their voices in solidarity and voluntary donations were collected to aid St. Luke’s recovery efforts.
The University United Methodist Church was packed with members of various faiths, all eager to support St. Luke’s journey of recovery.
“An incredible experience, an incredible display of love and care among church communities,” said Terry Bowman, director of music at St. John’s Episcopal Church. Luke,” expressing deep gratitude for the community’s support.
The concert was free to attend, but generosity was abundant, with people of all ages filling the pews to show their support. Every dollar raised goes directly to the restoration of the sanctuary that St. Luke’s lost in the fire.
“It’s amazing to think that the community will come together to help us,” Bowman said. “These things, when they happen, are a big deal for a congregation. And they support us so much.”

Although St. Lucca remains without a building for now, the event reminded the congregation — and everyone in attendance — that the church community is more than a physical structure.
As voices rose and music filled the sanctuary, it was clear that the strength of the Baton Rouge faith community would carry St. Luke’s through the road to recovery.
Donations can be made on the St. Luke’s Episcopal Church website.
