Baton Rouge, La. (First Louisiana) – Union workers in Baton Rouge threaten a potential strike for cats unless contracts can be agreed, which potentially affects transport for dozens.
Falesha Augustus has been a cat bus driver for over 10 years. It was present at the board meeting on Tuesday in support of being part of the united Transit Union.
“Pay, our safety, this is our livelihood,” she said. “Some of us, that’s all we have.”
Union President George Decuir said members were not paid enough and worried about safety. He mentioned the recent incident in which a prisoner was removed at a bus station near the CATS terminal.
“We want our fair justice and we stated that we had members of the management promoting the violence in the workplace with anti -all -all -law and they were not liable for that and now is a time to take a position,” Decuir said.
During the meeting, board members made a statement to Union workers how they wanted this process to be fair and equal to all participating and stated that they were in contact with organizations helping the Union solve the problem. Some Union workers have interrupted, saying that most of what they claimed is incorrect. More than 100 bus drivers are part of the Union and plan to join the strike.
“We have our international office that joined. They will send some resources to help us to establish ourselves if we lead to a potential strike, “Decuir said.
August said he was worried about the result of the negotiation process and would strike, if necessary, for better treatment.
Union members said their last option would be the strike and the start date is still being discussed.
