“The recent news that the Gilbert Institute will be repaired in the center of the senior is controversial,” said Reiki Basque-Emery-independent candidate for constituency 22 Paget East-stated.
At the end of last year, it was announced that the Gilbert Institute was scheduled to close and “the government decided to turn this site into a restaurant for the elderly” and the prime minister expanded on the subject during a recent press conference.
Mr. Bascome-Mery said: “The recent news that the Gilbert Institute will be repaired in the center of the senior is controversial. While it is nice for the elderly, he writes the end of a school that has a legacy of over 75 years. Questions should be asked about this development.
“How can we continue to trust this government with projects to renovate the state of Grand Atlantic Atlantic, which bleed taxpayers dollars. Why is it announced during this election cycle? Certainly the Honorary Prime Minister had planned this project a long time ago. This seems and feels a lot like a vote -grip, similar to the maintenance of the West End school, where families, students and teachers have not been consulted or considered in this decision.
“Going further, this shows the weakness of our economy, where the center of the senior, who would usually be a function of the private sector, is now governed by the Bermuda government. Again, the Bermuda government has decided to compete with current local companies and potential local companies. Turning Bermuda into a less attractive place for business. What should be done is a comprehensive review of the current market conditions to create a comparison between what we have at the moment and what we need to succeed in business like this.
“After boasting tax breaks recently, I would assume that the prime minister will expand these tax breaks to the business that seem to take care of our adults. The statutory of the cost of senior bases would be much more rated and would lead to the elderly receiving the respect and care they deserve along with the growth of the economy we desperately need.
“I would like to further suggest that this response coming from an independent candidate and the silence from the acting MP to be a damn accusation of the lack of representation for the people of the electoral region 22 Paget East. The lack of participants in the place he chose to represent shows that a Bermudi Alliance sees constituency 22 as a safe place that cannot be touched and the idea that safe places exist because of the Party Union is dead. People want and deserve more than their chosen employees.
“In conclusion, I hope that adults from this country can see through this hollow attempt to grasp the vote and that the C22 people use their voice on February 18 to find the right representation.”
