BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Family and friends of a teenager hit by a car and killed over the weekend are not letting his name be forgotten.
A huge crowd gathered in west Birmingham on Friday to support the family of 13-year-old Brylen Hardy.
“He was a respectable young man and he definitely knew how to ride bikes and his life was cut short,” said April Lacey, Braylene’s aunt.
Blue and black balloons were released for the teenager.
Birmingham police said the driver initially fled the scene but was apprehended a few blocks away. No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
Hardy was a seventh grader at Bush Hills STEAM Academy and an aspiring TikTok star with a passion for riding his ATV.
His aunt told him she was trying to be there for Hardy’s mother.
“My sister hurts me every minute, every hour, and the pain in her voice does something to me,” Lacey said. “I just have to be strong for her and you know I’m weak sometimes but I just hurt for my sister.”
Those attending the vigil also urged people to “be responsible”. They want people to drive safely and not be under the influence.
