The Justice Department will hold a press conference Wednesday to announce charges and arrests related to the October 2023 slaying of five people in Clinton.
It follows months of an investigation during which authorities offered a $10,000 reward in an effort to identify the person responsible for the Oct. 25 fatal shooting of five people at a Sampson County home allegedly used for illegal sales of drugs.
The victims have been identified as:
- Alphonse Jeffers, 73, of Clinton
- Dagoberto Lopez, 33, of Garland
- Lamar Williams, 58, of Rose Hill
- Hector Salazar Lopez, 39, of Garland
- Jamie Lynn Rowland, 47, of Clinton
Sampson County Sheriff Jimmy Thornton said the killings were the result of a drug-related shooting. The shooting took place at a house off US Highway 701 (Garland Highway).
A man who knew the victims said he went to the home to check on them and discovered the bodies. He spoke with one of the victims around 11:00 p.m. and returned to the house around 11:41 p.m., when he found them shot to death and called 911.
A press conference is scheduled for 10:30 a.m
