The Justice Department will hold a press conference Wednesday to announce charges and arrests related to the October 2023 slaying of five people in Clinton.
It follows months of an investigation during which authorities offered a $10,000 reward in an effort to identify the person responsible for the Oct. 25 fatal shooting of five people at a Sampson County home allegedly used for illegal sales of drugs.
The victims were identified as Alfonza Jeffers, 73, of Clinton; Dagoberto Lopez, 33, of Garland; Lamar Williams, 58, of Rose Hill; Hector Salazar Lopez, 39, of Garland; and Jamie Lynn Rowland, 47, of Clinton.
Sampson County Sheriff Jimmy Thornton said the killings were the result of a drug-related shooting.
A man who knew the victims said he went to the home to check on them and discovered the bodies. He spoke with one of the victims around 11:00 p.m. and returned to the house around 11:41 p.m., when he found them all shot and called 911.
The press conference is scheduled for 10 am
