Baton Rouge, La. time.

According to the audit, the BREC fails to agree on bank accounts, obligations for pay benefits and inventory bills. The auditors noted that without regular agreed accounting records could be inaccurate, increasing the risk of financial mismanagement.

In response, Brec Management said he had hired additional accounting staff and improved financial supervision.

“The Financial Department has recently filled key positions of an accountant at a professional level to help perform monthly bank coordinations and currently works on the training of the workflow processes and the mapping of the processes in order to document the procedures necessary for the timely completion of the coordination in future Audits, “the agency said.

The auditors also posed for problems with the BREC salary system, finding that three employees were paid twice for their final payment payment, leading to a total value of approximately $ 42,000. While BREC was able to recover the funds, the error was originally identified by a third party, not internal controls.

Another concern was the agency’s inability to submit the necessary audit report to Louisiana’s legislative auditor until the deadline. The report attributes the delay in staff shortages.

The audit also identifies numerous cases of theft of equipment for a total value of approximately $ 29,000. The items reported stolen include catalytic converters, power tools, electronic equipment and other park maintenance consumables. The thefts have taken place in various BREC facilities, including the Dumas Golf Course, Plank Road Park and Greenwood Support Store.

Breck said he was reviewing internal control and taking steps to improve security in his facilities as he continued to pursue prosecution in cases of theft.

This is a developing story.
