Athletics off to great start in Reno – OSU Beavers

RENO, Nev. – First ranking, Jayla Hooper broke his own school record for the third time in three meets on the first day of the Nevada Invitational.

In Hooper’s first meet as a Beaver, the Silver State Invitational, she set a school record in the shot put with a distance of 19.19m/62-11.5, putting nearly six feet between her and the number two seed. At the UW Preview, it reached almost 10 feet. Today, with a new personal best of 20.53m/67-4.25, Hooper broke the previous school record by more than 11 feet.

Beatrice Peterson and Beatrice Peterson Markayla Billings placed 16th and 17th respectively. Peterson recorded a distance of 15.04m/49-4.25 and Billings recorded 14.78m/48-6.

Joining the six foot club, Dide Norman placed first in the high jump with a personal best of 1.83/6-0. Adding two inches to his previous mark, Norman moved up to #3 in OSU history. Lexi Hunt reached a height of 1.68m/5-6 to rank sixth and Grace Proudfoot ranked ninth with a jump of 1.63m/6-4.25

Continuing his run at OSU records, Norman placed third in the long jump with a leap of 5.99m/19-8 to move into #2, also earning a personal best. Joining Norman in the top five, Delaney Bann jumped a distance of 5.93m/19-5.5 to place fifth.

All three OSU pole vaulters finished in the Top 10 on day one. Placing fourth, Mia Fowler finished with a new personal best of 3.75m/12-3.5, which moved her into second place on the OSU record list. Maddie Jeweler also cleared a new best of 3.60m/11-9.75 to place her at OSU #6. Completing the Top 10, Claire Lee ranked ninth with a height of 3.45m/11-3/75.

Jada Hurley led the Beavers in the 200-meter dash, placing 17th with a time of 24.96. Megan Hatcher finished 12/25 to earn 20th place and move to OSU #6. Addison Schwarzendruber ranked 38th with a time of 26.01 and Merseyside Shed ran 26.92 for 53rd place.

Jayla Hooper and Beatrice Peterson will begin the second day off for OSU with the shot put at 10:00 a.m.
