Approving new debates for the development of homes among members of the Municipal Council – WIBW

Topeka, Kan. (WIBW) – The creation of a new housing development was for approval at the Municipal Council meeting tonight and this caused a lot of debate.

The Council votes 8-2 in favor of creating a Sherwood Professional Park housing. However, due to its location and price, some members of the governing body believe that this will not contribute to resolving the problem of homes at affordable prices.

Christina Valdivia-Alkala and David Banks voted not in this issue.

Both represent areas on the east side of Topeka and claim that they are constantly overlooked by developers. Despite the need for affordable homes in areas that are obvious.

“Why do we always start on the west side of our city?” The banks questioned. “I have no problem with development, but I want to say that I have voters calling to say constantly:” Why are we not considered the tip of the ladder? “

Mayor Mike Padila then claims that the city has no opinion where the developers choose to work and that it is irresponsible to prevent new homes.

“By discouraging the building at every level without a real check of the intention and impact it will have on our city, I think it is not our responsibility,” Padila said.

The Planning and Development Director Rianon Friedman explained that in his analysis they find that the need for labor, single -family homes are also needed here in the capital.

This proposal seeks to add 10 Rent dules at a market price of about $ 1900 a month.
