Appeals court denies rehearing of Madison Co. man convicted on firearms charge – WLBT

JACKSON, MISS. (WLBT) – A Madison County man sentenced to 10 years in prison on firearms charges will no longer get a day in court.

On Tuesday, the Mississippi Court of Appeals denied a request for a rehearing by Kenneth Jackson.

Jackson was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2023 as a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

In 2022, Jackson was found in possession of a 12-gauge shotgun. He was previously convicted of burglary in 2007.

According to court records, he used the weapon to hunt turkeys. He also said the gun was an heirloom.

A Madison County District Court judge denied his request for a retrial or to overturn the conviction.

He also appealed the matter to the Mississippi Supreme Court, saying his sentence was excessive under the law and asking that it be reduced to time served.

Jackson is currently being held at the Bolivar County Correctional Facility. He was transferred to this facility on October 9. He is due to be released in 2031.
