To meet the state’s requirement for 75,600 minutes a year, the Ponder region will have a traditional five -day schedule for the first nine weeks of the school year, starting on August 6. Then in October the area will move to four -week four, Friday. The school days will be extended by 30 minutes on the four -day schedule, staff said.
The area will offer options for childcare on Friday for students before K to 5th grade.
Ponder school staff said they were making a move after “extensive research, discussions and contribution from stakeholders” to improve training, teacher retention and “overall school satisfaction”.
“The area envisages several benefits of the new schedule, including improved teacher recruitment and retention, increased students’ commitment and improved balance between professional and privacy for both staff and students,” the statement said.
Last year, the Indeger Independent School District announced that it was moving to a four -day school week in October 2024. The school in mineral Wells and Hillsboro have also gone through four -day weeks in recent years.
