Angler Bests 45-year-old state record: It looked like a yellow submarine! – Sports Illustrated

Fisherman of Baltimore County set a new record for Maryland as a yellow perch, crashing a scar that has been standing since 1979.

Thomas Dembek Jr. from Hyms, Maryland landed a 2.3-pound 16-inch yellow perch on February 7, while fishing on the lower River Suschan. It was deeply jiggling in 50 feet of water, using a double jigging platform with small soft plastic combs on an ounce heads arranged over a 1 ounce sink. The fishing of veterans, who pursued a yellow perch since the 1960s, uses a slight rotating rod with a 10-pound braided line when it feels heavier than a simple bite.

“I was endlessly ignited on the fish to the surface and even took the time to watch an eagle fly,” Dembek said. When he looked down, he saw a perch that looked like a big “yellow submarine” and called to his friend Lee Hyle to connect the fish.

Coincidentally, the Dembreck friend, Haile, is the current state record for the Pickerel chain in the non -zero department. He suspected that they could have a record record yellow perch in the boat and after the weight of the fish approached in a hand cliff, they took it on a certified scale in Gibby’s seafood in Lutheville for official weight.

The Maryland DNR Fishing Coordinator Eric Zlokovitz confirmed the species by making Dembeck capturing the new state record for yellow perch in the Chesapeake department.

Maryland fishermen who believe that they have landed record fish must withdraw and fill in an application for state records and call 443-569-1398. To maintain weight, DNR recommends that the fish be placed in ice water until it can be checked.

For those who chase their own perch trophy, the River Suskehana remains a major fishing destination. With the heating of the bite before the breakup, it is now the time to focus on large yellow perch in the deep waters staging areas.
