World-renowned orthopedic clinic Andrews Sports Medicine plans to redevelop a portion of the vacant Brookwood Village shopping center into approximately 135,000 square feet, according to multiple sources Andrews Center for Sports Medicine and Orthopedics.
On Tuesday, November 5, the Homewood Planning Commission will consider:
- Brookwood Village property resurvey
- The Andrews Sports Medicine Redevelopment Plan
There will be public hearings on each point; The city will release the plan and study soon.
A new home for Andrews Sports Medicine in Birmingham
Andrews Sports Medicine is a world-renowned not-for-profit clinic specializing in sports medicine and orthopedic patient care, research, education and injury prevention.
The organization was founded in 1986 and is currently headquartered in The Magic City, with clinics in:
- Birmingham (St. Vincent)
- Kuhlman
- Gardendale
- Hoover/Highway 280
- Hoover/Interstate 150
- Pelham
- Trussville
Now Andrews Sports Medicine has its sights set on a new project: redeveloping part of the vacant Brookwood Village in Homewood. The approximately 135,000-square-foot section is approximately 18% of the 750,754-square-foot shopping center.
The Homewood Planning Commission will hear a request to approve a development plan on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Located along Shades Creek Parkway between US Highway 31 and US Highway 280, Brookwood Village opened in 1974 but ran into problems retaining tenants during the pandemic.
