Wilmington Island, GA (WTOC) – a burned bald eagle, at the top of what was once the pole of the flag. This American flag, along with a garage nearby, was set on fire by an unknown man on Sunday night on Wilmington Island.
A $ 10,000 prize sign is now sitting in the front of a young family home, asking someone to come out with information.
“Two fires only on our street this weekend, this is a completely different level of vandalism. And it puts our community not only in danger, but also restless, “says John Schlender, a resident of Wilmington Island.
John lives on the same street where the fires happened. Chatham County Fire Department says the western gazebo saw that arson had hit two homes on Sunday night about 8 o’clock.
The garage of one family was lit, along with neighboring 4 doors down, which was lit their American flag.
But this crime has struck the community on Wilmington Island for nearly a month.
As WTOC first reported last month, in Commons, which are adjacent complexes, there were 2 fires on Island Creek and 3, which are adjacent complexes.
The Chatham Fire spokesman says one of these fires last month is under a arson investigation.
“I realize that we have recently had some other firefighters on the island,” Schlender said.
And now add this incident on Sunday night …..
The other homeowner that had burned their American flag- showed us a photo of the fire that evening. Fortunately, no one was injured in any of them.
“The fact that both are young families …. is extremely dangerous and frightening to us,” Schlender said.
Neighbors we talked to say everyone turned their footage with a camera on the camera of the police and the arson investigators who advised them not to share it with news media and protect him from social media.
“It’s very scary to our community,” Schlender said.
Neighbors say the videos show a man who acted alone. He was dressed in a hood, and the neighbors believe it was about 5’10 ″.
No arrests have been made yet.
