Topeka, Kan. (Wibw) – Sigma Alpha Iota invited Topeka to adjust to the All -American Concert in the White Concert Hall on February 2.
“We will hear many marches many exhibition tunes and present music that is made up of Americans,” said Sigma Alpha Iota Topeka Alumnae President Lana Balka.
The band consisted of 60 musicians from the whole capital. Director Stephen Patterson says the performance had something for everyone.
“We play a lot of patriotic music,” Patterson said. “It is also important for the university and the ladies in the brotherhood. Plus, it gives members of the group who have no place to play in the winter, this gives them a chance to play. “
The event was only $ 5 for presence with all the revenue that returned to student scholarships.
“The training is expensive these days and our scholarships are not so huge, but I think most who apply for training money,” says Sigma Alpha Iota Topeka Alumnae Creaturer Norma Pettijohn. “This can go to buy music for their instrument or repair for their instrument, just everything related to their Washburn music activities.”
These scholarships allow women to develop their dreams in music.
“The people in the group are some of our scholarship students for one thing, and some of them are teachers in the Topeka community and they continue in their music careers here and other places because they were aided by our scholarships,” Balka said.
