Alan’s road safety magic show tours County Durham schools – Durham Magazine

Schoolchildren in County Durham are enjoying the magic of road safety this week.

Alan’s Road Safety Magic Show is touring ten schools across the county to teach them how to be safe around the roads.

Organized by Durham County Council, the show aims to engage children in Reception and Key Stage 1 in a fun and interactive way through the art of magic.

Students will be shown how to stop, look and listen, find safer places to cross and how to use different types of light-controlled crossings, as well as learning how to stay safe and noticed and the importance of behaving for hands.

“Bringing magic into schools is the perfect way to teach our young children how to be safe in a fun and memorable way.

“We hope these important lessons will stick in their minds and be shared with their families when they return home, reminding their parents and siblings about road safety before the clocks go back.”

Cllr Elizabeth Scott, Cabinet Member for Economy and Partnerships

The ten schools participating in the road show are:

  • Durham Gilesgate Primary School
  • St Oswald’s CE Primary School, Durham
  • Whitley Hill Primary School
  • Howletch Primary School, Peterlee
  • South Stanley Infant School
  • Catchgate Primary School, Stanley
  • Prince Bishops Primary School, Coundon
  • Timothy Hackworth Primary School, Shildon
  • Collierley Nursery and Primary School, Dipton
