AirPods help Irvine Police Track Stolen Car – NBC Los Angeles

Two people accused of stealing a vehicle were arrested in Orange County after being traced through a pair of AirPods that were left in the car.

A video from the Irvin police shows employees who rush to bypass a suspected stolen vehicle on Saturday. Inside were two men from Texas who were identified as 30-year-old Steve Vorrat and 34-year-old Marcel Urban.

“Who knows what they were on Sammy and why they were in California,” SGT said. Carrie Davis of the Ervine Police Department.

The employees were able to track the stolen vehicle after the owner remembered that her AirPods were still inside. This allowed the police to see where the car headed and the employees were able to find it on the Plaza Center Park Center.

“This is a good lesson for today’s technology to always try to put something like that, something that can follow your vehicle, to follow your belongings in a place that is not too obvious,” Davis said. “So in case you are a victim, we can try to restore this item for you.”

Thanks to AirPods, the legal owner managed to regain the car.
