A man was shot dead to death on Monday night in the second investigation into the city’s killings in approximately two hours.
The deadly shots rang around 5:40 pm in the 100 blocks of the ninth court west. This area is close to the Hills College Community.
Policeman Truman Fitzgerald said the staff of the northern section were sent to the neighborhood on a report of a shot man.
They arrived to find the victim of the alley at the home of a family member.
The Birmingham Fire Department and Rescue Service rushed to the victim of a rifle at UAB Hospital, where he was declared dead slightly later.
Fitzgerald said the murder was related to the home.
The suspect, he said, is the girlfriend of the victim or ex -girlfriend. She escaped from the scene before officers arrived.
The Center for Real -Time Crime in Police Department helps track the suspect.
“The most powerful resource we have on this stage is the help and participation of the community,” said Fitzgerald. “The community is vital for this investigation, feeding information about our detectives.”
“This is a case where we know exactly who shot the victim, we know exactly who we are looking for and calling for this person to turn,” he said. “It’s just a matter of time before our investigators and patrol officers find you.”
Earlier on Monday, a 32-year-old man who disappeared over the weekend was found killed in a wooded area on the west side of the city. The family members looking for it made the discovery.
Fitzgerald has acknowledged a violent start to the week.
“The sad thing is that this is the typical model of facts we see – the victim knows a suspect, interpersonal conflicts,” he said. “The murder earlier on Avenue Carlos leads to a situation where we believe the victim may have known suspects or suspects.”
“Quickly forward just hours later to the north side of Birmingham and we have a situation of domestic violence,” Fitzgerald said. “Both situations included victims who knew suspects, and this is a common topic of killings in Birmingham.”
The victim is the eighth murder of Birmingham so far in 2025. There are 13 murders across the County Jefferson, including the eight in Birmingham.
Birmingham had six murders in all January last year, with the last one being held on January 25, 2024.
