The police officer was seriously injured during the “truly shocking” incident at a shopping park on Saturday evening and was taken to hospital, according to Police at Grand Manchester.
The forces said in a statement: “We received a signal for people who behave suspiciously in a vehicle in the parking lot.
“When the reacting police officer headed for the car, she announced that the car was moving at speed and struck her.
“The policeman was taken to a hospital to treat his injuries.”
Chief Inspector John Pickton said: “This incident is truly shocking and shows how fast the situations that our first -line employees are present can escalate.
“There is absolutely no explanation for why this incident had to end the way it ended.
“Our employees go to work every day to provide exceptional service to the communities they serve and to achieve fantastic results in situations that are often challenging.
“The attacks against our employees are completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. In this case, the policeman has severe injuries.
“Our investigation continues and the policeman is supported by all of us in the Stockport area. It recovers well. ”
