Authorities released footage from a police shooting in which they killed Konoa Stephen Wilson, a 16-year-old while running away from a weapon at Santa Fe’s depot.
San Diego-authorities on Friday released video footage of a police shooting that killed a 16-year-old boy while he was running away from a young man for a gun who had opened fire on him earlier at Santa Fe’s depot.
While the police have not baptized the victim, the family identifies it to CBS 8 as Konoa Steven Wilson, a student at Bayside Community School in Logan Heights.
The San Diego Police Office employee Daniel Gold just arrived in the area on an unrelated call when a Patrol colleague announced that he had listened to firing at the Kettner Boulevard’s historic railway station shortly before 9pm, according to SDPD officials.
Just before the shots sound, the observation camera filmed images of a teenage girl walking along a platform to board a pair of other young people, one of which suddenly pulled out a gun and fired at least two shots to it before fleeing it north with his companion.
The target boy responded by running for his life south, then east through an outdoor corridor at the city center.
Meanwhile, the gold hastened north to the pedestrian walkway with its pistol pulled, and its uniform carried camera is activated. Just as he reached there, the teenager appeared directly in front of him on a sidewalk on the east side of the station and the officer shot him at close range.
The boy screamed and continued to run a short distance before he collapsed. The officers then started performing a CPR on it while doing so, finding a gun hidden under the clothes of youth near his right thigh, according to police.
The paramedics took the teenager to a hospital where he was declared dead. His name was not released.
There is no indication that the teenager has fired his gun during the incident or kept it when Gold, a two -year member of the police station, opened fire on him.
Stephen Wilson, the victim’s father, told CBS 8 that his son was a “leader” who had never had any problems before.
The family claims that the incident “makes no sense”, describing their son as someone who is not predisposed to get into trouble.
Following an investigation by San Diego County Sheriff – which investigates the use of deadly power by SDPD staff under a regional agreement designed to prevent the conflict of interest – the District Prosecutor’s Office will rule on whether the gold has acted within the law when He shot the boy.
On February 6, police arrested a suspect-other 16-year-old relationship with the apparently uneven shooting that led to police shooting, according to SDPD. His name is withheld because he is a minor.
