Senator’s office Bernie Sanders in Vermont has been reported to receive a suspicious envelope containing unidentified dust on Wednesday morning.
MYNBC5 in Vermont said Senator Burlington’s office employee notified the Emergency Communications Center in Burlington about the incident around 10 am
The area was evacuated as police and fire crews responded with the Dangerous Material team in Vermont, which determined that the dust was not dangerous.
At least one employee has come into contact with the substance, according to the news station. At that time, Sanders was not in Burlington.
“Today, our Vermont office has received a letter containing an unidentified substance,” Sanders’ office told WPTZ in a statement. “We followed a standard procedure and the substance was subsequently identified as harmless dust. I want to thank the local, state and federal first answers and law enforcement authorities for their quick and effective response. They did a great job and are grateful for their service.”
