The North Las Vegas Police Department mourns the loss of one of its own after a shootout, which also left a suspect of a man.

On Wednesday, police identified the fallen officer, such as 46-year-old Jason Roskov, whose career with the department extended for 17 years.

“With deep sadness, we share the heartbreaking news about the loss of one of ours who were killed today in the execution of the on -call,” the department published on Facebook late Tuesday night. “This tragic loss is a solemn reminder of the dedication and courage of those who serve and protect our community.”

The situation unfolded around 2:13 pm when the officers received a signal for a person aimed at a gun to another person, said a press release.

The suspect ignored commands of employees and flew to run, police said. The armed suspect was located by an officer who ordered him to show his hands, but instead a firing exchanged, “the statement said.

Police said the employee, later identified as Roskov, “had been hit repeatedly during the exchange but managed to return the fire by hitting the subject.”

Roskov and the suspect were taken to hospital where they both died. Employees from numerous law enforcement agencies gathered outside the hospital and a procession is being held, while Roskov’s body was taken to the Corrona’s office of Clark County.

In a Wednesday message, police said Roskov’s commitment to public safety brought him a movement department in 2013. After playing this role for 11 years, he returned to patrol operations in February 2024.

While serving in the traffic department, he was recognized by an example service award.

Police have not identified the suspect in the shooting, which marks the first firing related to the North Las Vegas police officer.
