A police officer in northern Las Vegas was killed when an armed suspect did not obey commands and opened fire, hit the cop several times during a deadly “Western shootout” on Tuesday afternoon.

The 46 -year -old officer Jason Roskov responded to reports of a man with a gun near the intersection of Lone Mountain Road and Camino Al Norte, 11 miles north of the Las Vegas Strip.

The suspect, identified as Alexander Andre Matisse, managed to escape from the first group of officers before Roskov found it again, KSNV reports.

Roskov, a 17-year-old veteran of power, noticed the 25-year-old walking down the street and ordered him to stop and put his hands in the air.

Matis opened fire to the officer after deciding Roskov’s commands, the exit added.

Roskov was hit several times, but fired back to his attacker.

The wounded officer was taken to the UMC trauma center in critical condition, the output reports.

The hospital staff tried to revive Roskov, but he was declared dead later during the day. Matisse was also transported to the trauma center where he died.

“More than an officer, Jason was a mentor, friend and valuable member of our family of law enforcement. His memory will forever be a beacon of courage, service and dedication, “said the North Las Vegas Police Department.

Roskov joined The Force in June 2007, before moving to the 2013 movement department.

He won the award for an example service over time with the movement department for “exceptional results under challenging conditions,” the department said.

Roskov, the father of two young sons, returned to patrol operations in February 2004, where he remained until his death.

A nearby resident described the shooting as a “western shootout”, saying she saw three to four people escape from her house before hearing the rifles.

“It sounded just like a western shootout, I heard pop, pop, pop shooting,” Tony Cooper told The Outlet.

Matisse’s mother says he chose to be a homeless man, not to live in the house with her, but he has always been greeted.

His sister was stunned to learn that her brother had a gun because it was not characteristic of him and she did not know that Matisse was violent.

“Our minds are puzzled because it’s like, how? The thought that my brother even has a gun is still like how? “Sam White told KSNV.
