A petition for the proposed closure of the Gilbert Institute – Bernews

An online petition is launched for the proposed closure of the Gilbert Institute, saying that “maintaining its doors is not just an option but a necessity.”

The Gilbert Institute’s closure plan was originally announced in 2021, in 2024. The Minister of Education said it would be completed in June 2025 and the plan for turning the site into a restaurant was announced last year in The Chamber of the Assembly and won more attention recently when the prime minister discussed it at a press conference.

The petition says: “We who deeply appreciate the role of education in the formation of a more illuminated future for our children have been struck by fears about the proposed closure of the Gilbert Institute. This respected establishment served as a cornerstone of the education of our children, which prompts them for success.

“The Gilbert Institute has been constantly demonstrating its value over the years, standing not only as a school hall, but also as a sanctuary that nourishes and trains future leaders of our society.
