Paging All Baton Rouge pizza lovers: there is a new place in the city. Marco’s pizza, 9402 Burbank Drive, will host a solemn opening on Monday, February 17th.

Marco’s Pizza is an Italian-American chain founded on Ohio with over 1100 stores in 33 states with places in Puerto Rico and the Bahamas. They are known for their white pizza pizza and peppery pepperoni magnifico. They also serve submarines and buy for pizza.

Baton Rouge owner Ken Patel has come out of retirement to take over the pizza world.

“I’m actually a hotelier and I sold my last hotel, took a year of vacation and bored me,” he said.

He looked around and found Marco’s pizza – there were only two in the state and none in Baton Rouge. He heard good things about food and felt the market ready for Marco, so he decided to franchise on the spot. At Burbank Drive, Marco takes over the former Empire Wingz building.

The trip to open Marco is fraught with problems with equipment, staff and training, but the crew is ready to leave now.

Chief Operations Officer Ishan Mehta, who is Patel’s nephew, said he was excited to see the place open.

“We have a little rush at lunch, which we did not expect to show up on the first day,” he said on the evening of the soft opening, February 10th.

Marco’s Pizza, which has more than 1,200 seats around the world, will open its first place in Baton Rouge on Burbank Drive.

Mehta added that he was excited because Marco would have hours at the end of the night. The restaurant will remain open until 11pm Sunday until Thursday and midnight Friday and Saturday.

For those who have not tried Marco, Patel recommends trying Pepperoni Magnifico, his personal favorite. This is pizza with peaks with two types of pepperoni and three types of cheese.

“You will fall in love with this pizza,” he said.

To celebrate the opening, Marco will serve free pizza slices from 10am to 11am on Monday, February 17th. From 11 o’clock onwards, they will offer a 50% discount from regular menu prices to closure.
