Two boys were hospitalized early on Monday morning to treat injuries suffered in a mobile home fire on the south side of Santa Fe.

A 16-year-old boy was taken to a district hospital and a 12-year-old boy was transferred to the University of New Mexico in Albukerke, said Santa Fe officers. They did not provide details on the degree of injuries to boys or their conditions.

The reason for the fire remained uncertain on Monday.

Santa Fe firefighters, sheriff’s deputies and emergency officers were sent to the fire shortly before 6am on Monday, a district spokesman said, and they were still in place later.

MPs Rudy Vallejo and Levi Abeit arrived at the place of “completely swallowed fire” by Camino Don Fidel and helped save one of the boys from the burning mobile home, the sheriff’s office said in a news message.

“These MPs reacted without hesitation and managed to save a child who was still trapped in the burning residence,” the announcement said.

Daniel Frescakes spokesman wrote in an email that the fire took place in a small community near South Meadows Road and Frontage Road near the NM 599.

Two vehicles were lit in addition to the mobile home, writes Fresquets, and the fire was extinguished by the crews of the fire department until 10:30 in the morning

Delivery fire crews from Madrid, La Sienega and Turquoise Trail were sent as well as responding from the city of Santa Fe.

The New Mexico Fire Marshal service has opened an investigation into the cause of the fire.
