WINSTON-SALEM, NC — One man is dead and another is in custody after an early morning shooting, according to officials with the Winston-Salem Police Department.
Police said it happened Saturday around 7:55 a.m. Officers responded to 1449 Peace Court in response to a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found one victim, later identified as 36-year-old Lomark Dean Cameron, suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso. Despite life-saving efforts by police and paramedics, Cameron died at the scene.
The Department of Forensics responded to the scene and took over the investigation.
Police said they arrested Darin Leroy Perry, 59, at the scene. Investigators said it was an isolated incident. Perry and Cameron, who are related, were hanging out at Perry’s apartment when a verbal and physical altercation ensued. This prompted Perry to shoot Cameron.
Perry was charged with criminal homicide and criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Perry is currently being held at the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Center without bond.
His first scheduled court appearance is Monday, November 4.
