Virginia Beach, VA – one of the officers killed in the performance of duty last week in Virginia, was a native of South Jersey.
Officer Christopher Reese grew up in the region before moving to Virginia for college, according to nj.com. He served the Virginia Beach Police Department since July 2022.
Reese, and his colleague, officer Cameron Girwin, were fatally shot dead during the stopping of traffic on Friday in Virginia Beach, authorities said. Reese was 30 and the virtue was 25.
Reese has lived in several cities of southern Jersey, but has spent the longest childhood in Somendale, according to nj.com. His father, George Reese, IV – is a retired police officer in Kamden.
Christopher Reese attends a college at Virginia University Weslian, graduating in 2017. He continued to become Virginia Beach’s deputy, before joining the city’s police station.
On Friday, Reese and the Varvan stopped a vehicle for shelf life. Driver John McCoy III began arguing with officers when he was asked to get out of his vehicle, said Virginia Police Police Chief Paul Neidiga.
McCoy pulled out a gun and shot both officers many times, Naudgita said. McCoy was then found dead in a shed with what employees think he was self -inflicted on a firearm.
“The officers, the Varvan and the Reese, they were dedicated, the peace and civil servants have identified,” Naudgita said. “They had a stellar reputation in our department and their work ethics was out of reproach.”
A Gofundme raised over $ 51,000 for Reese’s wife and family at 2:00 pm on Monday.
