Durham Cancer Cancer Charity says that they do not have enough volunteers to cope with the huge growth in the demand for their services.

They offer transport to and from meetings for patients who desperately need it.

But they say that they do not have enough drivers to help bring those with cancer to where they should be.

Alison White, founder of Great Aycliffe Cancer Maintenance Group, said: “With any kind of voluntary position, it must be flexible, day here and day there, but unfortunately, our volunteer drivers in one day in one day It can do three jobs, which is not perfect because they do not want to do it, but because they do not want to release cancer patients, we still accept them.

“We have seen the huge increases for sure with new cancer diagnoses, and many of them apparently also received cancer, so this put a lot of tension to the respect of the services we provide. Obviously we do everything possible, but we can not do it without volunteers.

“It is supposed to be from Monday to Friday, but our drivers do Saturdays are Sunday, even because there are so many people who are diagnosed with cancer and they are so behind that they have to get people over the weekend. We must be able to be able to We can delegate our volunteers so that we can help more patients.

“The charity has paid volunteers for mileage costs a total of £ 400 a month, it was in advance and now we are obviously at nearly £ 5,000. It’s scary and very difficult for a charity like ours. Doing what we can and obviously need people to people Board to help us get these patients in hospital.

“If we look this way, we take £ 5,000 and if we pay so much to the drivers a month, we don’t even have enough to do 12 months of driving, as £ 5,000 x six months is 30,000 pounds and for a charity like ours , that’s a lot of money.

“We do not like to respond because we had people who actually told us that they did not go for the meeting because they would have three buses, so hearing stories makes you more decisive to continue. “
